Routine School Cleaning Practices Promote Healthy School Gyms

Most exercise programs are frequently conducted in school gyms, regular school cleaning tasks for a cleaner and healthier venue are needed to motivate students. Unhealthy lifestyles attribute to the rising figure of childhood obesity. These include improper eating habits, poor diet choice, and sedentary activities. To combat unfit lifestyles, schools improve their nutrition and exercise programs. Some purchase the latest equipment to introduce new physical activities. Others incorporate modern dancing moves with traditional exercise to make learning fun. However, high traffic in sport facilities builds up dirt and bacteria which cause illnesses. Many schools rely on commercial cleaning service companies to clean and maintain gym facilities. Gym floors and rubber mats are commonly used in exercise programs. Physical activities burn excess fat. Sweat makes floors and mats filthy. Through time, sweat creates salt residues which stain different surfaces. Rubber mats are especially prone to perspiration due to frequent body contact. If cleaners do not practice proper commercial cleaning procedures, dirty gym mats will cause irritation, rash, and other skin diseases.

Equipment sharing is common in many gyms. Hands transmit different bacteria. Studies found E. coli and strep-bacteria growing in several equipment. Dirty floors are also potential breeding grounds for germs and fungi. Students engaged in exercises which require them to go barefoot, may catch fungal infection like athlete's foot. Using appropriate commercial cleaning products such as disinfectants will sanitize the facility and its equipment. An environment with high moisture content attracts bacterial growth. Adequate air circulation system reduces the humid atmosphere inside the gym. Unkempt and stinking sport facilities discourage a positive learning atmosphere. A routine school cleaning procedure should be prioritized to prevent accumulation of dirt and diseases. Students will be healthier, happier, and motivated when they perform different exercises.

  1. If your school is clean, there is a motivation for students to be clean, even if they are naturally messy at home; school is a play where you learn things. You pick up good habits. Students can learn cleanliness in their schools and bring the idea of cleanliness to their homes.
